Librium

A few weeks ago Superdoll Collectibles™ held a special party in honor of their 5th anniversary.  The event was held in conjunction with the 2010 Paris Fashion Doll Festival (PFDF), but was not part of the Festival itself.  Speak + Spell was an exclusive VIP soiree held for a small group of forty or so Sybarite™ fans on the Thursday prior to the start of the Festival, and promised to be an event like no other.

This is the flyer used to promote the events.
Speak + Spell was held at the Musée de la Poupée in Paris, France, where attendees were given a preview of the new six-month exhibit featuring five plus years of Superdoll™ deliciousness.  What a treat it must have been for the attendees not only to experience the gorgeous creations by the Superguys, Charles Fegen and Desmond Lingard, but to actually experience it with them in person.  Imagine being able to chat with Charles and Des as they discuss their inspirations for the doll collections, one-of-a-kind outfits, and the exquisite Chalk White™ dolls.
During the party, attendees were given a commemorative “extreme edition” doll named Librium™ (ltd. 50 pieces).  Swoon!  This girl is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous, and is a truly special tribute to Superdoll’s past.  Charles kindly explained that Librium™ features the DC d’Royce™ sculpt; a special sculpt that is rarely used.  During the past 5 years, it has only been used for some OOAK Chalk White™ dolls, the limited Cosma Shiva Galaxina™ event doll, the Innoqui™ 14 inch porcelain doll collection, and now Librium™.  I asked if they will use the DC d’Royce™ sculpt again.  He answered elusively, “we may do, depending on our whim.”  This is the only time the DC d’Royce™ sculpt has been used on a doll manufactured in China, and I asked the Superguys why they chose to use the DC sculpt for this special doll.  Charles simply said, “because she is gorgeous and she shares the same birthday as Venus.”  I think I can speak for Sybarite fans everywhere when I say that I wholeheartedly agree that DC is a gorgeous sculpt and most definitely worthy of this noteworthy incarnation.

The gorgeous Librium in all her glory.
What makes Librium™ even more special is that she is an homage to her past.  Her faceup is a recreation of Desmond’s Valium™, a doll that Charles painted for him when they first started the Sybarites™ project.  Sybarite™ fans have always coveted that special doll, so imagine the look on their faces when they first gazed upon Librium™.  I think I would have fainted.  But the homage doesn’t stop there.  Librium’s hair is a tribute to Surreal™, their first production doll from China, and her gauntlets honor Tattoo™, the very first retail Sybarite™ doll.  Further, the red fishnet on her dress bodice is from the original Haute Doll magazine photos of Fugu™, and her hose reflect this too.
On a side note to connect Librium™ to Valium™ even more, Charles told me, “Valium™does have the same outfit as Librium™, but in a color variation that [he] did for her especially.  She has not been seen wearing it as of yet.  Valium™ is currently on exhibition in the ICÔNEX exhibit in Paris and she wears the prototype jewelry from Librium™.”
Three other dolls were debuted during the 2010 PFDF.  Tick™, the Disco 3000 event doll for registered PFDF attendees, Tock™, a limited edition doll that was available at the Superdoll Collectibles™ sales table, and the Musée de la Poupée exclusive, Slipper™.  While all of the dolls are part of Superdoll Collectibles™ Fifth Anniversary celebration, Librium™ is truly a “special” doll and will hold a place in Superdoll™ history.  Lucky are the few who own this dazzling creature.  She is definitely a stand-out doll that brings the past and present together and then points them directly to the future.
If you find yourself in Paris between now and 19 Sept 2010, please be sure to check out the Musée de la Poupée to see an amazing collection of art and craft that is Superdoll Collectibles™.  And while you’re there be sure to pick up the Musée’s beautiful exclusive Sybarite™ doll, Slipper™.
