"In the Mix" Takeo

"In the Mix" Takeo Mizutani arrived, and he doesn't disappoint!

This is the second incarnation of Takeo, and what I like about Takeo is that he is younger, stronger, and built for speed! LOL Just kidding, of course. Well, he is younger looking, but he has the regular Fashion Royalty Homme body, so he's built like all of the other Homme guys. He does seem to fit in with the Nu.face collection with is more youthful look while the previous Takeo doll (from the 2008 Fashion Royalty convention) fit better with the Fashion Royalty collection with his slightly more refined look.

Takeo's hair is molded like a mofo -- there's so much gunk in there to help keep it's shape that it's more like a helmet than hair. I think I'm going to give him a wash and a trim. I'm not a big fan of longer hair on a guy, and while it might not look like it from the pics, but um, Takeo has a bob. LOL

Takeo's outfit consists of some really cool knee-length shorts, a green t-shirt, a "seersucker" sport coat (though it's not puckered) with crest, a knit beanie (not shown in my pics), and some really cool checkered high-tops. The shoelaces are a bit long, so a trim might be in order to make them look a little more in scale. Oh yeah, and he also comes with a pair of interchangeable hands -- easy to dress and twice the fun!

All in all, I'm happy with him. I do, however, have a few complaints about the Homme body. I wish it was a bit more articulated. The chest articulation only moves from side to side so he can tilt; I wish it also tilted forward and backward (well, it already does, but it doesn't hold the position). I also wish the neck joint had a bit more motion; my boy can't look up and down, but a bit.

I love the Integrity is constantly making adjustments and perfecting the Fashion Royalty and Nu.Face bodies, so maybe we'll see some improvement in the coming year(s).

A brand new band of dolls

Say hello to the Mixis, a group of mixed race women with realistic bodies. Created by the Toronto based YNU group, there are four women in the first batch, Rosa, Emerald, Opal, and Houda. Each have features and skin tones mixed from two or more racial groups.

All Mixis™ dolls celebrate the beauty and richness of multiracial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. To allow for the broadest interpretation, the dolls are not identified by race or ethnicity, but capture a multihued palette of skin tones, eye colors, facial features, clothing and accessories. The full range of dolls — Amber, Amethyst, Coral, Diamond, Houda, Emerald, Opal, Rosa, Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz and Turquoise — “have character in their faces,” according to Founder and President Debbie Goodland of YNU Group. “They are not a carbon copy of an ideal. They represent a variety of ethnic groups and they say to the world, ‘We are just as important as everyone else.’”

You can find the details about these dolls at YNU's website.

A Touch of Ennui

It's been crappy weather here in my neck of the woods for almost a week. This usually means that I just stay inside and mope around in some form or another.

In my moments of boredom of being stuck with my cat, who I swear is out to get me if I pace my floor one more time, I decided to take a look at some of my dolls that just don't get the love as they should. Like all of us collectors, we go through phases of our favorite dolls that we like to display, photograph, or play with. It's not that I don't love some of my older dolls, it's just my reaction to current dolls can be similar to that of a magpie. I see something shiny and I'm instantly distracted.

Anyway, speaking of Ennui, like the title of the post suggests, I decided to give a little love to my Ellowyne Wilde doll "Chills". She's been on display since I brought her home from FAO Schwartz and have bought over the years a few outfits. Since both of us were feeling melancholy due to the weather we decided to play dress-up.

I took a few pictures of Ellowyne in her original outfit and in her Highland Lows outfit. It cheered us up a little, and got us talking a bit about some of her upcoming looks that were just released about a month ago on her official site. Ellowyne will now have the option of separate pieces of clothing, like her distance cousin, Tyler Wentworth, or you can buy the full set with a trunk and a basic Ellowyne doll in the hair color of your choice.

Personally, I'm surprised that Ellowyne has not made her way into more Collector's homes. I think she's pretty unique and even if one decided to be part of your collection, I think it's a grand start.

Twilight dolls abound

Lots of new Twilight dolls have been announced in recent weeks. First, we had an announcement at the 2009 Tonner doll convention that Jacob, Alice, James, Victoria, and Laurent will be produced, then another announcement from Tonner that Edward and Bella in prom outfits will also be produced as an Amazon.com exclusive, and finally that Mattel is producing a Barbie doll as Bella and a Ken doll as Edward.

Here is the pic of the Mattel version:

Pic courtesy of Toys R Us Canada

No images have been released for the upcoming Tonner dolls, but they're sure to be a hit with collectors because there have been many many requests for Alice and Jacob, especially.

Need an outfit for every occasion for your doll? Look to RC!

RC being Randall Craig! Every fashion doll needs at least one Randall Craig ensemble in her closet but the more the merrier! Fashion Royalty and Randall Craig are like peanut butter and jelly! My ladies love RC! There seems to be a RC for every occasion and season. Pictured below are my favorite, especially his convention collection, which I am still hunting a few pieces that keep getting away. When can your favorite doll wear a RC?

Well how about...

.....when you are alone, after your face lift, and are needing that pick me up.

Tyler Wentworth Marries Matt O'Neill

At last......, after 10 years of courtship, Fashion Designer Tyler Wentworth married her Beau Matt O'Neill in a private ceremony on June 13, 2009 in Lombard, Illinois.

The Maid of Honor was former model and owner of the Chase Modeling Agency, Sydney Chase. The Best Man was Mr. O'Neill's good friend Russell Williams. The Flower Girl was Ms. Wentworth's younger sister Marley Wentworth. Ms. Wentworth was given away by father figure and long time mentor, Robert Tonner.

The Bride wore a custom made silk and lace gown with beading in white. Her veil was simple and wore white roses in her hair to match her bouquet.

The Maid of Honor wore a custom made sheer off the shoulder red silk dress with matching red roses.

The Flower Girl wore a custom matching red summer, floor length dress.

The Groom wore a black tuxedo with white tie and vest.

Kitten Smitten

For the longest time , I'd been seeing photos of the most adorable kitten dolls . I resisted for as long as I could.

Produced by Sekiguchi Petworks , Odeco is an adorable doll and Nikki is her kitty .

I had a major case of sticker shock , when I decided I had to have one ! After weeks of shopping around , I purchased Vacation Nikki and Potato Nikki . They have cute stock outfits , but love to wear fun fashions from many sources.

Nikki cats are smaller than Blythe , and a bit bigger than Wonder Frog . So far , they have worn clothes from Bratz , Mattel Stacie and Tonner Kickits.

Since they aren't exactly inexpensive , I may keep my collection to 2 for a while !! My kitties are in more or less realistic colors , but Nikki has been produced in many cool "fantasy" colors like yellow , pink and blue.

If you are looking for a unique new dolly friend , check out a Nikki Chan !!

A Picture's Worth A Thousand Words.......

If you're like me, my doll collection has ebbed and flowed depending on my personal tastes at the moment.

At one point I had over 350 Silkstones! I still have all my Mackies, but if you display your dolls and decide to sell them later, do you have all the pieces?!?

I see this type of question posted all the time, i.e. "which shoes went with ****** doll?" And in the line of Superdoll and the sYbarites, an even more common question is, "Do you remember which stand went with ****?" And if you like to mix and match with the fabulous outfits and shoe packs available, it can get quite confusing to remember.

So take a picture! Each and every time you receive a new doll or outfit, take a picture of it in box. It's so easy to do and will save you countless headaches later. And I don't mean a picture like this!

LOL!

There's no way I could remember which pump went with a particular Mackie. Oh, and there are some Innoquii (tm) poking out of there as well. ;)

So instead I've started to take a quick pic, even from a camera phone, print it a copy for quick reference (or make sure to back up from your computer in case, EEEK!, your hard drive goes down) and you'll be sure to have a photo record of the original item. I've even started to paste a small picture on the back of an index card and list the items included in the original packaging.

This is especially important in case you decide to sell an item. Many buyers want to purchase "mint" dolls and without the correct pieces, it can cause a lot of problems.

2009 Life Ball Doll by Jason Wu

Spending quality time with my newest "Favorite Doll", the "Life Ball Doll by Jason Wu". She's my latest diva, and one of the most exciting dolls I've seen since FAO's "Spectacular Spectacular Eugenia." The packaging of this doll has one of the nicest presentations I've ever seen: black velveteen box, metallic silver liner, red ribbon. She oozed glamour and luxury as soon as I slid her box out of the shipper. Deboxing her was exciting in itself...and I savored every minute of it.

After a substantial photo shoot in her original gown, I decided to see how this new body type would fit other outfits. She's very close in body type to the "NuFace" body so she can pretty much wear everything that they can; the Silkstone clothing fits perfectly at the bustline, but snug through the hips.

Here she is wearing "Blue Soiree" gown by Mattel:

Showing her versatility as a temptress, she wears an 'anime' outfit made of black pleather....[the slip & panties are her own]:

I love that she can go from "Runway Chic" to "Sexy Villan" so easily.

Many other happy owners have redressed her, and I've even seen someone reroot and restyle her hair - giving her eyelashes in the process; all with amazing outcomes.

Our own Chattykevin has even discovered that her hands are removeable [although not as easily as the "HandSpeak" dolls, so proceed at your own risk]. I haven't attempted to pull them out - yet - but it's nice to know that I have that option.

For a more detailed look at the 2009 Life Ball Doll, please read my review in the DollyDaily Reviews....and please feel free to add any thoughts and comments regarding this doll.

LBD is the first doll in Integrity Toys' new Fashion Royalty "Monogram Collection", and I'm eagerly anticipating the 2nd addition...especially if she's anything like this doll, and if she comes wearing miniature Wu Couture.

LA Blythe meet @ Royal/T

Holly tagged along with me to the meet in her new Gentle River outfit...

The Group shot...

The Group expanded...

So much fun today as So. Cal. Blythe collectors gathered for an informal meet-up at Royal/T cafe in Culver City. It was so cool to see so many Blythe dolls, all of the custom girls, and the mad variety of eye colors, hair colors, and outfits. Holly, my girl, was overwhelmed to meet so many new friends. In fact, she got to meet some of her sisters -- two Hollywood Blythe dolls from other collectors. The food there is YUMMY, and the servers dress in lolita maid outfits -- totally RAD!

Pullip doll line changes hands

All of us Pullip fans have been worried over the past few months over the news about Jun Planning, the Pullip marketing company's financial woes. Then the releases were delayed. And at one point, there were even rumors of the Pullip line coming to an end. Then finally, it was announced that Jun Planning had indeed filed for bankruptcy. But, fear not! Groove Inc, Mango Park's company now has taken over Pullips from Jun Planning, and has also launched its blog, linked through the picture above.

New releases, although a little changed from the previously announced prototypes are all slated to release on time. So fans of Pullips, Taeyangs, Dals ... rejoice. Here are the latest dolls announced (click on image to view a larger version)

BIC debuts the FW 2009 Trico collection

BIC (Barbie in Chiba doll shop in Japan) has just debuted the new Trico fashion collection for Fall/Winter 2009. The collection is designed by the very popular LoveSound team. LoveSound has coordinated with Jason Wu and Integrity Toys on some very popular Fashion Royalty dolls ("Wild Wolf" Kumi from the Nu.Fantasy collection, and the "Painted Black" Nu.Face giftset) as well as being featured in many of the Japanese fashion doll magazines.

This season's look features an edgier collection that will work nicely with this year's Nu.Face collection. Eden would rock in the "True Love is here to stay" drawstring shirt dress, and Giselle would look oh-so-trendy in the Down Blouson and shoe-cut black denim jeans. And just look what it did for the Misaki collection; all dolls pictured look AMAZING!!!
